The Parenting Paradox
Ah, parenting! It's a beautiful journey, but let’s be honest, it can also feel like an uphill battle of constant self-sacrifice. Society often judges us based on how much we pour into our children’s lives and their achievements. As a result, we can start losing sight of who we are, and what makes us tick. Over time, many parents tend to forget that it’s crucial to savor the moments we take for ourselves. Sure, tidying up the kids’ room is a task that draws everyone's attention. But does someone celebrate your personal cozy space? Even if you’re wisely using Japanese Spark Joy method of tidying-up?
The Importance of Self-Love
As we dive deeper into this parenting sea, it’s important to remember the value of self-love. We often prioritize the hustle and bustle of raising little humans, because we are craving for evaluation. So we can forget about nurturing our own well-being. That will lead you to think “I am someone who doesn’t deserve attentive care”. Whereas engaging in activities that bring us joy is not just important; it’s necessary. Think of it this way—if you feel fulfilled and radiant, you can carry that energy into something which helps boosting your self-esteem, as well as into your family’s well-being. Let’s be real, how can we craft our ideal living if we’re running on empty?
Finding Your Spark Joy
So how do we navigate this tricky concept of merging parenting and self-care? Here's a little gem: in Japanese culture, there’s a saying, 一日一善 (ichinichi-ichizen), which translates to “Do one good deed a day.” Now, while this typically refers to doing good for others, why not adapt it for our own well-being? Try to set aside just one moment each day to engage in something for yourself—be it reading that book gathering dust on the shelf, indulging in a delicious treat, or even just taking a few minutes together with a cup of tea. Little by little, these moments of self-acknowledgment can help you reconnect with who you truly are.
Remember, dear parents, being a caregiver is wonderful but it's also essential to harness your true essence. In my case, I had been forgetting my creative essence due to poor self-care. Eventually l wasted the first few years of ‘post parenting age’ for my music creation, in order to retrieve who I was. So please go ahead, make that commitment to yourself in order not to forget who you are. Make room for joy, as it will ripple positively in your whole dynamics!
Reignite the spark within you! You’ll see that both your artistic sense and your children will flourish when you prioritize self-care. Let’s embark on this journey to discover how fulfilling parenting can be—while also embracing and loving who we are inside!
