Becoming a parent can be daunting, especially for those of us who may have been reluctant, as I once was. Before my journey into motherhood, I spent countless hours learning jazz dance with the hope of mastering music rhythm. I remained in elementary classes, struggling to progress after six long years. However, everything changed when my daughter was born.

A Natural Talent Unfolds

From an early age, it became clear that my daughter possessed a dance talent unlike anything I had experienced myself. Encouraged by friends and nursery school teachers who recognized her passion, I enrolled her in ballet classes at just five years old. It was a leap of faith, allowing her to pursue something I had only aspired to do. Little did I know, this decision would lead to remarkable developments in her journey.

The Mystical Rewards of Serving Children

As my daughter evolved from a ballet dancer to an exceptional hip-hop performer, I marveled at the transformative power of encouraging children to follow their passions. The same universe that seemed so indifferent to my talents had begun to reward me through her accomplishments. Seeing her shine at the center position of a grand stage at her dream university, part of a renowned dance team, was more than I could have ever imagined.

This evolution not only filled me with pride but also offered a sense of vindication. In my younger years, classmates often looked down upon my dance progress, but watching my daughter achieve her dreams in dance provided me with an unexpected joy. Parenting, I realized, is an adventure filled with rewards that we cannot always foresee, leading us to destinations we never planned to explore.

In Japan, there’s a proverb “瓢箪から駒”(hyotan -Kara koma), translating “a piece from a gourd”, meaning unexpected things happen. Each child's journey is unique and filled with potential, waiting to be discovered by those willing to support and nurture them.
