Confident of the Certainty Mindset?
In the world of excess information, two contrasting philosophies often emerge: the certainty mindset versus the acceptance of uncertainty. A manifest expert David Ghiyam advocates for embracing a mindset grounded in certainty, encouraging individuals to believe firmly in their abilities and the outcomes they desire. This mental framework can empower individuals to pursue their goals with confidence and a sense of direction.
The Role of Uncertainty in Growth
In contrast, many meditation influencers suggest embracing uncertainty. Their mantra, 'I accept uncertainty,' acknowledges that not everything is within our control and that true growth often occurs outside of our comfort zones. By accepting the unknown, individuals are given the freedom to explore new opportunities and experiences without the fear of failure. This idea can foster resilience and adaptability—traits that are increasingly valuable in an unpredictable world.
Cultivating an Environment of Success
While both philosophies have their merits, which to choose? I have seen the key in complement. I recommend creating an environment where your children can glean inspiration and motivation from successful peers who embody this 'certainty' mindset. When children see their friends achieving prestigious accomplishments, they can internalize that 'if they can do it, so can I.' After my daughter was accepted into a prestigious university, I noticed a remarkable shift within her high school dance club. The students who witnessed her success began striving for similar achievements, leading several of them to gain acceptance into notable institutions the following year, which had never happened before.
Here’s another example. My father was the conductor of the wind orchestra at his old high school. For some reason, many students from this club passed the entrance exam for the University of Tokyo—the top-ranking school in Japan—every year. In contrast, other clubs usually had only one or no students make it in. So, does playing wind instruments boost children’s brainpower? Did my father secretly teach them some tips for success? Maybe—but I don’t think that was the main reason. I believe the real explanation is the same as what happened at my daughter’s high school.
Such a ripple effect illustrates how the impact of one person's success can lead others to see their potential for achievement as more certain. Although the journey to success is often fraught with uncertainties, surrounding your child with peers who exemplify determination and accomplishment can create a 'certain victory vibration' that makes the idea of success feel more tangible.
Ultimately, the lesson here is not to choose one philosophy over the other but rather to integrate them. Just give your child a promising environment, while simultaneously suggesting them to embrace uncertainty as part of life's journey. This dual approach can cultivate a mindset that is not only resilient but also open to the countless possibilities that the future holds.
FYI : You know you don’t have to encourage your child to choose dance club or wind orchestra club!
