Limited Visual Perception in the Brain
While our brains process visual information and allow us to recognize objects, this process is heavily influenced by our past experiences and knowledge, meaning we recognize what we've seen before, or similar to what we've seen. When Columbus' ships sailed to the West Indies, only a shaman recognized the ship because no one in the island had seen that big ship before. Although it wasn’t visible to everyone, the shaman could see because of the training to let go of preconceived ideas.
With that said, it’s essential to recognize that our experiences shape our understanding of what our children are capable of achieving.
However, we often rely on our instincts when it comes to nurturing our children’s talents. This is where the wisdom of senior mothers and teachers comes into play. Their insights can provide valuable guidance, particularly in areas where we may lack firsthand experience.
Seeing Isn't Always Believing
We've all heard the phrase, 'seeing is believing.' But when it comes to parenting, this adage may fall short. For instance, I can recall a time when I struggled to recognize my daughter's undeniable dance aptitude . Initially, I was oblivious to her talent; my lack of familiarity with gifted young dancers blinded me to her abilities. She consistently won the center position at her nursery’s dance performances, yet I was unsure if she deserved that spot or if the position merely indicated her skills.
Snappy Help from Those Who have Clairvoyance
It wasn’t until a fellow parent, mother of a classmate Ai, emphasized my daughter’s potential that I began to take notice. Her repeated encouragement led me to enroll my daughter in ballet classes, and it was in this structured environment that her talent truly blossomed. This experience taught me the power of external perspectives. Listening to other mothers and engaging with teachers can provide perspectives that illuminate our children's strengths and talents, even when we may not see them ourselves.
Creating Miracles in Team Effort
As parents, it's our responsibility to give our children the best possible chance to flourish. This can be achieved by remaining open to the advice of those with more experience. By paying attention to the recommendations from senior mothers and teachers, we can identify skills our children may not yet realize they possess. Whether it's athleticism, artistic flair, or academic talent, taking heed of their suggestions can pave the way for our children to explore and develop these abilities.
In short, while it’s crucial to trust our instincts, it’s equally important to listen to the voices of experience around us. By doing so, we not only enhance our understanding of our children's capabilities but also ensure they receive the support they need to reach their full potential. Ultimately, nurturing our children's talents is a team effort, and incorporating the wisdom of senior mothers and teachers can make all the difference in the world.
